SG vs PRC?
BB once mentioned that someone he knows is super critical of the Chinese nationals in Singapore (often known as "PRCs")...well the locals indeed aren't exactly the most welcoming when it comes to PRCs cos PRCs are supposedly: 1) Rude 2)Loud 3)Uncultured 4)Unrefined 5)Money-grabbing and cunning 6)Uneducated 7) country pumpkins 8)Dirty and doing stuff like throwing used sanitary pads out of window 9) Spit everywhere, and 10)___________(insert negative adjective of choice)
BB didn't get why the locals are so anti-PRCs .....thing is BB hasn't been to China yet, so I said if he takes a trip to China, he'll: 1)experience super filthy toilets with no doors decorated by poo-smeared floor (Ah Meow went to one with used sanitary pads all over the cubicles in Ha'rbing) 2)get nudged and pushed without apologies 3)need to shout real loud just to get stuff done like ordering a few char siew baos for example (Ah Meow can attest to this too)....it's just the culture in China and that's what got all the prejudice and bigotry started. Can't be blame though, considering the fact that I've personally been to a toilet cubicle which was essentially a drain without door the last time I was there with my family and I was stupid enough to use the last cubicles and I literally saw poo floated pass :S So if you ever find yourself in need to use the drain toilet, do not go to the last one!
I'm somewhat prejudiced myself and I admit I do have some preconceptions about PRCs and I do think there are indeed quite a lot of rude PRCs (but I'm not anti-PRCs cos I have a few PRC friends and they're nice)..... however, what got me thinking is that well, local Singaporeans love to wag their fingers and diss PRCs for being uncouth and uncultured but have they actually thought about whether they, the local themselves, are really that refined and cultured?
Cos while doing my daily newspaper monitoring a couple of days ago, I saw a reader wrote into My Paper (2 March 2010) expressing her disappointment in rude Singaporeans. I immediately showed Ah Meow and we both agreed that there're in fact, a hell lot of very rude Singaporeans out there! The reader said she got rudely dissed at in Holland Village Coffee Bean by a bunch of smoking teenagers who were blocking the door way as her husband nicely told them to move and then some road rage woman who didn't signal cussed "Fuck" (I'm assuming it's fuck cos she said 4-letter word...but could be c#%t...hmm) at her despite being in the wrong....
And it's TRUE! There're really a hell lot of uncouth and rude Singaporeans out there! In fact, all the rude shit I've experienced so far are mainly locals!!!! I remember some redneck (un)gentleman snatched my cab and when I said to him "Excuse me but that's my cab!" and he mumbled "Bitch" and went off....WTF????? Seriously???? And don't get me started with all those rude aunties with long pointy toe nails who would push you around the MRT just to get a seat or men, yes men!, who dash into the door without a word of thanks as I, the girl, yes, the girl (you know the gender with a vijayjay?), am holding the door open....ohh...or the people in the buses and trains that fall asleep instantly on cue the moment an old frail grandma walks in? In fact, the dashing-in door man thing and sleeping on cue on public transport trick happen very often.... my point is, Singaporeans are not the most courteous bunch....and please don't say stuff like "Oh but we're so much better compared to the mainland Chinese" cos if you do the downward comparison, you can never get better cos that's the loser way of comparing....let's face it, if Singaporeans are really so damn socially graceful, then why the hell do the government need to come up with a national courtesy campaign, completed with "Singa" the courtesy lion??? That says a lot I think....and it's really quite lame....
Hmmmm....so is the pot calling the kettle black or what? I really wonder.....

Magic Potion
I've been reading the very critical comestic cop, Paula Begoun (author of Don't Go to the Cosmetic Counter Without Me), and she said the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair is really good and so I bought one at the Duty Free because if a difficulat and hard-to-please cosmetic police said it's good, then it's gotta be good right? And it IS good! This stuff is excellent in fact! I've been using it for about a week now and despite the fact that I didn't actually get prettier :( it has helped heal my breakout somehow. Cos a day after I got to HK last month for the CNY, I suddenly had little rashes on my forehead. Those tiny teeny annoying ones that didn't quite go away and those bloody things in the end turned into blocked pores!!!!
So I've been clearing out the blocked buggers with Ettusais Pore Care wash which is good and then forcefully squeezing those blocked stuff out (look, it's actually better for the skin in the long run) and you know how this torturous but strangely satisfying move will leave your skin a bit raw after and it takes about 2 days or so for it to go away and look less angry? But then after I slapped on some Advanced Night Repair, those pissed off pores actually heal quicker! The next morning it didn't miraculously disappear sad to say, but it did look much calmer...and my skin seems to heal faster. So I guess the Repair stuff is working!
Well, it's supposed to help "undo" all the previous damage and prevents aging and what not, but it's just been a week plus since I've used it but I do hope I'll look prettier soon...if not, I'll just drink it if I feel desperate. But then thus far, it seems promising with the angry red pores a little more appeased....the only draw back is that I find it slightly sticky.....rather unlike the rest of Estee Lauder products I've tried cos most of them have really nice velvety texture but this one tends to be a tad sticky I dunno why and it strangely smells of bread...yes, I think it smells like bread...Initially I thought maybe it's my toner but then I tried it on my hand and it did feel mildly slimy so I guess it's something I'll have to put up with. Anything to look good right?

Match Point....
Once upon a time, my very gorgeous work neighbour Chris and I were chatting about her brand new relationship with a very loving boyfriend. Chris said everything feels right with him and I asked her to define what she meant by "right" cos you know, all these stuff about love is kinda ambiguous...the airy fairy stuff that nobody can be that sure of (or that's what I used to think at least). Chris said she knew it's right cos she misses the person even when she spends time with him every day and somehow it doesn't seem to be enough cos when they're apart for a bit, they miss each other.....at that point, I thought she was crazy cos first of all, I couldn't stand seeing the same person everyday, let alone spending quality time with the same person day in day out. Looking at Chris' dreamy face made my hair stand cos she looked all super loved-up...the vomit-inducing kind of loved-up to the romantic skeptics of the world....I was insanely jealous cos I thought that would never happen to me....to begin with...the idea of seeing the same guy every day was challenging if not off-putting....You can't blame me for being such a major skeptics cos my romantic crash-and-burn track record has been phenomenally sterling. Cheating ex-es, lying ex-es, possessive ex-es, explosive-tempered ex-es, bf who wasn't over the ex, fair weather bf, abusive bf.....oh...of course not forgetting the tiny baby-sized skin tag peen bf.....What do you expect? With that kinda shit record you can't expect me to be all dreamy by the window sill with a little birdie perched there singing Disney tunes while waiting for my prince charming and actually believing it would happen...... Come on, tiny baby-sized skin tag peen track record you know???
THEN something happened and I joined Chris' club....I met BB and then I totally understand what Chris meant and now I vomit-induce the romantic skeptics in me but at the same time, I've never been happier....and so, here's Miss B's Top 10 Signs of a Good Match...
Top 10 Signs of a Good Match
THEN something happened and I joined Chris' club....I met BB and then I totally understand what Chris meant and now I vomit-induce the romantic skeptics in me but at the same time, I've never been happier....and so, here's Miss B's Top 10 Signs of a Good Match...
Top 10 Signs of a Good Match
- You can spend everyday with the person without getting tired or sick of the person and very often you want more...yes yes, honeymoon but if it's the right one, even when the honeymoon's over, spending time would be pleasant still.....I used to cringe at the idea cos with "Mr Skin Tag Peen", at times when I got on the cab to go home, I felt relieved...like "Oh great, now I can spend some time alone finally"....not good
- There's no annoying rubbish like "So What Are We?" or anything awkward along the line of needing to define the relationship or the lack thereof. When it's right, you mutually decide to be in it exclusively and work on it. You commit. With Skin Tag Peen, there was sooo much second-guessing, like oh if he's dating other people etc...it was awkward....now that's not what a good match is. With the right one, you won't have situation like "Oh we're dating but let's not jump to conclusion cos well, it's not really exclusive yet, we're still seeing how it goes blah blah blah"....well skin tag peen was two-timing me with a super skank...eewww
- You don't feel insecure....well, with all the second guessing gone, you just feel more secure....I remember my first serious bf was forever talking about his ex and pining after her and that sucked ass....and I second-guessed so much, wondering if he's really over her or if he's dating me out of convenience etc...I dunno how I put up with it for 1.5 year....voodoo, must be voo-fucking-doo...it was crap, you don't want voo-fucking-doo do you?
- You make plans together instead of leaving things random.....you plan your week and weekends...and the future too and you plan your stuff with the other person in mind...unlike a certain asshole who used to rock up once every 2 months claiming "Oh baby I miss you"...OGT would know who I'm talking about...bastard
- Hanging out gets super comfortable....no more oh-I-better-be-on-best-behaviour or I-better-impress rubbish....you can just be yourself and enjoy and even get appreciated being yourself...you can even talk about issues properly....
- You're able to do nothing together without getting uncomfortable....there were just some guys I couldn't stand doing nothing with...I got really restless after awhile...I'd be secretly hoping to be left alone...bad sign
- The conversation just flows naturally and even silence is comfortable....no more what-should-we-talk-about issues......
- Phyiscal contact and intimacy are sensual and emotional (of course sometimes carnal too)....not just some random wam-bam-thankyou-mam crap.... or worse....skin tag peen *shudder*.....there used to be a couple I know who did not enjoy the physicals....the girl said (verbatim) "Kissing was disgusting"....now that's very very bad news...if you're reading it, you know who you are and you'd better do something about it....
- There's no more holding back....no more I'd-better-not-be-too-nice-to-him thing or I'd-better-not-say-I Love You/I Miss you-first rubbish....you're secure and comfortable enough to tell what's on your mind
- When the "I Love You" becomes more about the "You" than the "I"....that's when you place the other person first and it's about the person and who he/she is rather than how he/she makes you feel....it's not about loving the person cos he/she makes you feel good/happy/orgasmic/loved/pampered/special (delete where necessary) but you love the person for who he/she is

March Muse
Reading: VoCE Magazine (Taiwanese Edition so I can read the Chinese and know what they're talking about).....it's the ultimate vainpot magazine that tells you everything you ever need to know about beauty products.....no rubbish articles like "My husband slept with my maid" or "How to give mind-blowing head job"....
Watching: A Woman, A Gun, and A Noodle Soup by Zhang Yi Mou....my favorite Chinese director!!! Okay, probably going to watch very very soon.....
Listening to: Elgar Cello Concerto by Jacqueline du Pre....ohhhh my all time (dead) cellist and cello concerto! Too bad du Pre died at a young age of 41. Sigh....but this is in preparation for next month's Yo-yo Ma cello concert that I'll be watching and Yo-yo Ma currently owns the "du Pre" Stradivarius cello that costs about $2million bucks USD which is built to play Baroque best and was once so badly abused by du Pre....I'll be happy with the "Sleeping Beauty" Stradivarius...slightly cheaper, only $1.8 million USD ONLY *gasp* ...-_-''
Wearing: Essence by Narcisco Rodriguez....courtesy of BB! Thanks BB! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this scent! It's fresh with a slight hint of musc. It's supposed to be a musc-based perfume but unlike most heady and heavy musc perfume, this one has a sparkling and irridiscent quality of rose petal, violet and amber....it's got the perfect balance of floral and powdery note that's fresh and energising....I get so much compliment from this!
Using: Ettusais Pore Care Wash.....new stuff....great thick creamy lather and it promises to clean out dirty pores to prevent enlarged pores and zits...good stuff cos it's got a faint soft lavendar scent and it makes your skin feels super clean without feeling it's so tight that your skin will break the moment you smile....
Also using the new Za Skin Beauty Two-Way Foundation....nice shiny pink case and super smooth powder that really covers up pores well...it's supposed to keep skin hydrated but it's still not moisturising enough for my parched skin but I'm not complaining cos the texture is super smooth...good value....
One more, also using Oshima Tsubaki shampoo too. It's the same brand from the camelia hair oil that I mentioned some time back, but this one's not available in Singapore and I got mine from Hong Kong. It's really very very gentle and because it doesn't contain harsh ingredient, it's a low-lather shampoo but it leaves hair super soft and even when you rinse off the shampoo, your hair doesn't feel dry and I do think it's possible to even skip conditioner if you have normal hair.....it's good...only drawback is that it doesn't have a very nice scent...not that it stinks cos it doesn't but it's only got a very faint scent...and I love nice smelling ones...but the good trumps the bad...okay, it's not even bad per se.
Pimping: Striped Cotton Jersey "Sailor" double-breasted jacket from TopShop....I wasn't intending to buy this until Ah Meow pointed it out and made me try it and then I was sold and the thrifty Ah Meow approved of me buying so I followed instruction...hahaha...
Eating: Bee Pollen from Chiang Mai.....I visited some honey shop in Chiang Mai where they sell a slew of honey related products and Bee Pollen's supposedly good for sinus and has great health properties and gives you good skin...so I got a big tub back...ONLY to feel bad that bee pollen is actually food for bees and it means that I've robbed them of their food....I promise I won't buy it again :(
